About Joe Giles

Golf Professional

Joe Giles started his golf career at the young age of 13 in 1969 at the Granville Golf Course. In 1977 he became Assistant Professional. In 1985 he became a member of the P.G.A. (Professional Golfers Association). In 1988 he also took on the duties of Greens Superintendent. In 1990 he was awarded the title of Head Professional.


In 1992 Giles left Granville Golf Course to become the Head Professional and General Manager at Raccoon International Golf Club, also in Granville. While at Raccoon, he developed an award winning teaching institute called Raccoon University.


In 1996 Giles left Raccoon to assume the duties of Head professional at Chapel Hill Golf Course in Mt. Vernon. In the fall of 2005, Joe left Chapel Hill to become part owner of Granville Golfland.


Coaching Career

Giles has coached the Newark Catholic Golf Team since 1982. Giles has won several “Coach Of The Year” honors and his teams have won two league championships. They have competed in three state finals, finishing 3rd in 1998,4th in 2001 & 5th in 2011 .

  • Authored numerous golf articles and has been published by PGA Magazine.  
  • Named a Top 10 PGA Teacher in Ohio by Golf Digest in 2010 & 2011
  • Named one the top 400 teachers in America by Golf Magazine in 2003 & 2004
  • Voted as one of “Americas Top Teachers”, by the Consumer Report Institute in 2003
  • Named the 1993 Southern Ohio PGA “Teacher Of The Year”.
  • Appeared in the Newark Advocate and the Mt. Vernon News with a weekly golf column.

Giles is a lifelong resident of Licking County and a 1974 Newark Catholic graduate.
