Granville Golfland Now Official Trackman Fitting Center

“The Only One in Ohio”

Granville Golfland, one of the Top 100 Golf Ranges in America as judged by Golf Range Magazine is pleased to announce that it is the only golf club fitting center in Ohio to incorporate Trackman fitting technology in its work. Trackman technology is the very same technology used by the biggest golf club companies in the world (Ping, TaylorMade. Titleist, Cleveland, Callaway, etc.) and is the technology used by television networks to show the path of shots hit by PGA and LPGA tour players during telecasts. Trackman is the very best in launch monitor technology available today.

Golfland fits hundreds of players each year and has been using outdoor launch monitor technology for three years. Golfland is the only place in county that uses such technology in an outdoor setting. This allows a player to not only actually see where the ball goes, but verifies its flight by launch monitor. Now with Trackman, the amount of data and its accuracy is increased greatly. Fitter and Golfland owner Jeff Jackson initially uses Trackman to determine a player’s club head speed and ball speed off the club face. These are key parameters in initially determining a players shaft flex and loft. Next he looks at launch angle and spin rate to refine the selection. “The key to distance in today’s game is to find the combination that gives a player the highest launch and lowest spin that matches his swing characteristics” states Jeff Jackson. “Longer drives result when the player keeps the ball in the air longer with less spin. Trackman tells us this information using radar sensors that track the ball from impact until it hits the ground.”

Trackman also shows how the ball lands, which is a key element to longer shots. “Land angle is very important when it comes to total distance” says Jackson. If a ball lands at too steep of an angle, it won’t roll as much. The proper land angle is usually under 40 degrees. With lower land angles, players add up to 20 yards of distance. The proper combination of shaft, heads style and head center of gravity for a particular player can give him a minimum of 10 yards more driver distance – and often times much more. Since we have had Trackman, players of all levels have been impressed with its accuracy and amount of data that it generates.”

In addition to the above information, Trackman also shows such this as angle of attack, which influences how much spin is put on a ball. It also tells swing path in three dimensions and show both vertical and horizontal swing plane. Joe Giles, who along with Jackson teaches at Golfland plans to use Trackman in some of his lessons. “Trackman can pick up things that human eyes can’t” says Giles. “Plus, it used 3-D imagery to show the player exactly how he is swinging. For the player who wants the most scientific instruction available, Trackman will play a big role. And Trackman can tell a player exactly how far he hits each club. This is very important when it comes to course management and lower scoring.”

Another feature of trackman is that it can be used by a player to practice specific shots. The machine can be set, for example, to measure 50 yards if a player wants to practice 50-yard shots. A player hits a given number of shots and Trackman shows him how short or long each shot was, and how far left and right each on was. Such specific distance practice is used by Tour players to refine their short games; now it is available locally as well. There is a Long Drive component of Trackman as well. Players can compete head to head to see who hits the ball longest – ad they can choose how wide of a grid they want to hit in to. “We plan to use this feature when we host our second annual regional qualifier for the Pinnacle Exceptional Distance Challenge in the spring,” notes Jackson. “Trackman has a speaker that will announce the distance of each player’s drive, adding to the excitement of the competition.”

Granville Golfland also uses Trackman to incorporate Ping’s new fitting software, known as nFlight, when fitting a player with Ping clubs. The nFlight software uses Trackman to specifically recommend a Ping head and shaft combination for a given player. Debuted earlier this year at the PGA golf show in Orland, nFlight is available only at very select Ping club fitting centers nationwide.

“Each Year we try to add something new,” Vonda Welch notes. “This year it’s Trackman, and we think this investment in our fitting and teaching capabilities will further make Golfland a destination for all Ohio golfers, not just ones from Licking County. There are fewer than 100 Trackman units available to the public in the entire country. Golfland is proud to be the only one in Ohio!”
