About Joe Giles

   Joe Giles started his golf career at the young age of 13 in 1969 at the Granville Golf Course. In 1977 he became Assistant Professional. In 1985 he became a member of the P.G.A. (Professional Golfers Association). In 1988 he also took on the duties of Greens Superintendent. In 1990 he was awarded the title of Head Professional. In 1992 Giles left Granville to become the Head Professional and General Manager at Raccoon International Golf Club, also in Granville. While at Raccoon, he developed an award winning teaching institute called Raccoon University. In 1996 Giles left Raccoon to assume the duties of Head professional at Chapel Hill Golf Course in Mt. Vernon. In the fall of 2005, Joe left Chapel Hill to become part owner of Granville Golfland.

Giles has also coached the Newark Catholic Golf Team since 1982. Giles has won several "Coach Of The Year" honors and his teams have won two league championships. They have competed in two state finals, finishing 3rd in 1998 and 4th in 2001.

He has written numerous golf articles and has been published by PGA Magazine . He also appeared in the Newark Advocate and the Mt. Vernon News with a weekly golf column.

Giles has won several teaching awards during his career. In 1993 he was named the Southern Ohio PGA "Teacher Of The Year". In 2003 & 2004 he was named as one of the top 400 teachers in America by Golf Magazine. Also in 2003 he was voted as one of "Americas Top Teachers", by the Consumer Report Institute.

Giles is a lifelong resident of Licking County and a 1974 Newark Catholic graduate.
